In this classic collection of stories drawn from his own experiences, the author looks back on his days as a teenager aboard the fishing boats of San Francisco Bay. In the early 1900s, men of all stripes descended on these waters to plunder its rich oyster beds. To stop the run on the waters, a patrol was established. Jack London began his youthful adventures on the wrong side of the law, as an oyster pirate. But conscience and common sense got the better of him, and at the age of 16 he became a member of the Fish Patrol. Dedicated to enforcing the many laws that were passed to protect the fish, the Fish Patrol had many death-defying encounters with the pirates. These 7 short stories, based both on Jack's experiences and those of his fellow deputies, describe these incredible encounters.

This is one of the worst examples of book piracy I have seen. The illustrations are fine, but the pagination and odd use of paragraph breaks suggests that this edition was simply photocopied from another edition. That statement is bolstered by the inside cover title page, which lists publication date as 1906, obviously a bad photocopy job.Product details

I too know the San Francisco Bay well and really enjoy the factual details and sea faring lingo of Jack's early experiences. He life was a wealth of adventure for readers of all ages.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tale.
One of my favorite London books. Very little known any more.
This is a great collection of short stories about a young man doing a very dangerous job in the San Francisco bay area. As usual with Jack London stories, there are plenty of villans and a small group of heroes, who are adept at using smarts to overcome their problems. If you enjoy Jack London stories, this is a must read.
